Crisis
Intervention is available 24 hours per day 365 days per year via
the three digit dialing code 2-1-1 or 1-561-383-1111.
Trained staff and volunteers provide immediate
support to callers who:
- are in acute emotional distress;
- are or perceive themselves to be in life-threatening situations;
- are in danger to themselves or to others;
- are hysterical, frightened or otherwise unable to cope with
a problem.
The
objective of Crisis Intervention is to:
- defuse the critical nature of the situation;
- ensure the person's safety;
- and return the individual to a state of equilibrium in order
to capably identify and seek solutions to the problem.
Crisis Intervention staff and volunteers:
- listen actively with concern;
- encourage open expression of feelings;
- help the person gain an understanding of the crisis;
- help the individual gradually accept reality;
- help the person explore ways of coping;
- and link the person to social services.
