At this time there is no federal assistance & resources are limited to some of the categories listed below. Please note that evacuees are on guest visas that do not qualify for social services.

Not aware of any special offerings for evacuees- normal rates apply for Palm Tran, Tri-Rail etc.

Children being enrolled in public school should be given relevant bussing routes- as with any other child.

Utilities Assistance for Relatives Supporting Bahamian Evacuees

PBC Community Action Program may be able to provide resources for residents who may be housing evacuees. Residents must be U.S. citizens who reside in Palm Beach County and must meet the criteria of 150% of Florida Poverty Level Guidelines.

The Abaco Strong Relief Center is located in the Mall at Wellington Green, upper level, near Dillard’s. The address is 10300 Forest Hill Blvd, Wellington FL 33414. Our main entrance is through the interior of the mall across from Fit 2 Run and we also have a back door and loading dock to accommodate deliveries. 

Our operating hours are 11-7 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday until December.

Category 5 Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the northwestern Bahamas on Sunday and Monday, bringing catastrophic winds and life-threatening storm surge. Here are some of the groups and organizations in Florida and the U.S. gathering supplies to assist victims.

WHERE TO DONATE:

 

 

* A group of South Florida Bahamians have gathered together to get supplies to the Bahamian Consulate. Hygiene kits, water and non-perishable food are most important. Below are drop off locations for Thursday:

* Palm Beach Outlets , located at 1751 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. in West Palm Beach, will host a Bahamas relief supplies drive starting Wednesday at 10 a.m. Visitors are encouraged to drop off much-needed supplies at the Customer Service desk located inside the Food Pavilion. The following supplies are needed: First aid kits, cleaning supplies, canned goods, box fans, flashlights, leather work gloves, hand sanitizer, non-perishable food, water, tarps, tents. toiletries, diapers, cleansing wipes (for adults and babies)

* Operation 300 , a nonprofit in Martin County, will be stationed at Witham Field in Stuart collecting donations to fill semis, barges and planes with donations. They are in need of volunteers to load the semis, donations, and individuals with medical, electrical, engineering, carpentry, and debris removal experience for 3-4 day trips to the Bahamas to help out. Operation 300 is coordinating its efforts with the US Coast Guard, USAID, DHS, and Customs to ensure maximum impact.

* All IPIC South Florida movie theater locations (North Miami Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach) are gathering donations starting Sept. 4.

* The Eagles Wings Foundation and Rocco's Tacos and Tequila Bar in West Palm Beach, along with other local partners and the city of West Palm Beach, have teamed up to provide Bahamian Relief. They are starting a donation drop off starting Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Eagles Wings Warehouse located at 514 14th St. in West Palm Beach. They ask to please do not donate used clothes.

* The Association Of Bahamas Marinas is posting updates on their Facebook page. As of Tuesday, they said under no circumstances should any private vessel try and reach the islands at this time.

* Rotary Foundation - There are three ways to support the Bahamas through Rotary. The Immediate Past President of Rotary International, Barry Rassin, is a resident of Nassau and is helping coordinate aid efforts from Rotary clubs worldwide.
1. Give money to Rotary's Disaster Relief Fund via The Rotary Foundation.
2. Rotary District 6990, which includes clubs from Deerfield Beach to Grand Bahama Island, is coordinating supplies to be delivered via a 181-ft long boat. https://rotary6990.org/
3. Shelter Box, an international NGO, started by Rotarians, is already involved in providing temporary shelter. Each Shelter Box is numbered so donors can track where their box goes.
